It is a run of the river scheme located in Tehsil Khatima of district Nainital. It envisages utilization of 27 m head available between the proposed barrage site at Tanakpur and existing Sarda canal i.e. 0.6 km down stream of Banbassa barrage. The proposed barrage shall divert the supplies of the river into a 6.2 km long power channel of 566 cumecs capacity. A power station with 3 units of 40 MW (total 120 MW) is located near the existing Banbassa barrage. The tail race channel 1.4 km long joins the existing Sarda canal at its chain age of 0.6 km. the project will produce 525 million units of power on 90% availability.
