On the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana, 1.5 kms below the spot, this project is situated. A 260-meter earth and rock fill dam is being built. When it is completed, there will be a power generation of 2400 MW apart from Irrigation of 2.70-lakh hectare of land. By construction of this dam, the possibility of floods in the plain area will minimize.

As per March 1993, it's approximate cost is Rs. 2963 crores. Till the year 1989, Irrigation Department did the work and spent Rs. 355.18 crores. In October 1989 the project was handed over to the THDC.
